Business Development Executive / Manager

Location London
Job type: Permanent

THE COMPANY:

THE CURATORS was born in 2018 and is on a mission to Super-charge Savoury snacks creating products with BOLD FLAVOUR AND BIG NUTRITION. Founders Max and Ed, food industry friends, bonded over a love of bold and exciting flavour and after long debates about where to build the next big lifestyle brand in the food industry, they set about raising the game in savoury snacking with standout nutrition in a world of high carbs and empty calories. In short, they want to do for crisps what Grenade has done for the chocolate bar.

Fast forward to 2022 and despite a global pandemic they are building a brand with enormous potential, having launched in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons & Waitrose, whilst building an exciting online business with Amazon and their own D2C channel.

They have a fantastic flexitarian range across meat and plant-based snacks, from Biltong, Pork Puffs and Nuts through to their new High Protein Veggie Puffs. But most importantly they are building an incredible team of future leaders in the industry and could not be prouder and more excited for what’s to come.

Oh, and they have just recently become a certified B Corporation, one of only 1000 in the UK!

THE ROLE:

We are on the lookout for a driven and energetic sales superstar who wants to make their mark on the industry, helping to make The Curators famous along the way! This will be the main business development role in the team and the guru of all things Out-of-Home, working side by side with the Co-Founder to set the strategy and deliver it.

They have an award-winning range functional snacks that deliver on Bold Flavour and Big Nutrition and they want to see the brand stocked in all the best gyms, sports venues, offices and premium independent retailers around the country.

  • Primary focus of the role is to make The Curators famous in key ‘Out-of-Home’ channels including High Street, Foodservice, Leisure and Convenience (essentially anything that is not a Supermarket).

  • Building distribution is the key objective, ensuring The Curators is being stocked in the right venues that will help drive sales and build brand equity.

  • This will include building commercial partnerships in these sectors, activating those partnerships through in outlet activities, such as product sampling, as well as pure business development negotiations.

  • In addition to this there will be an element of the role that includes supporting the Commercial Director and Sales Manager (out-of-home) with the day-to-day management of the business – including product admin and set up, promotional admin, data collection and analysis, operations and finance.

WHAT WILL THE ROLE INVOLVE:

  • Working with the Commercial Director to develop and implement a clear and relevant customer strategy across Wholesale, Convenience and Out-of-Home, defining clear priorities of which customers to target in these areas and tracking progress on a weekly basis.

  • As the No. 1 brand ambassador for The Curators you will be the lead person ‘in the wild’ meeting strategic partners and customers to share the company vision, brand strategy and our product ranges. This will be your relentless drive, to meet with relevant contacts and share your passion for The Curators and make sure they have tried, and love, the products.

  • Identifying where the product ranges fit well and targeting the most relevant customers with polished and persistent communication. No is not an answer but an invite to ask in a more creative way!

  • You will be the company's main day to day liaison into the key sales teams within the wholesalers they work with to deliver products to their customers. These people will become your new best friends and in your speed dial. You might one day become friends!

  • It is important that whoever drives this role forward has a passion for all things food and fitness, and excited to build relationships in this space.

KEY KPIs

  • Delivering The Curators sales budget is the key performance metric. They are a high growth business and driving the top line is the best indication of the commercial team working effectively.

  • Other KPIs include:
o Contact points made on a weekly basis.
o Number of brand activations achieved (e.g. samplings in outlet)
o ROS (rate-of-sale) growth across all product categories in the channel

ABOUT YOU

  • A self-starter, sleeves rolled up type, keen to dive straight in.

  • Brilliant inter-personal skills and the ability to build rapport quickly and easily with customers.

  • Loads of energy and drive, this is not for the mild hearted.

  • Fast learner, keen to learn and develop under direction.

  • Articulate (written and verbal) & able to manage external emails/newsletters to customers with minimal support.

  • Commercial acumen proven in any capacity (doesn’t need to be consumer goods)

  • Decent understanding of Excel although they certainly do not need an expert from day 1

  • You must be organised and punctual – these are key traits for anyone to win in sales / business development.
